WDTF Regulation Changes

Amendment of the Water Information Requirements in the Water Regulations 2008

The following article summarises information received from the Bureau of Meteorology.

On 10 May 2012, the Governor-General amended the water information provisions of the Water Regulations 2008. Most of the changes will take effect on Thursday, 5 July 2012, however the amendment relating to a new Person Category (Category J – Owners or Operators of Hydrologically Significant Sites) will not come into effect before 2013.

You can find information about the amendment by visiting our web pages and also referring to the Water Information Bulletin No. 8. The full amendment can be accessed at the ComLaw website.

For organisations in Person Categories A, B, E and F
Since its release in December 2010, we have updated the Water Information Bulletin No. 8 to reflect the final form of the amendment.

Regs Online tool

We are revising the Regs Online tool. At present, the tool shows the current obligations of organisations named in the Water Regulations. We are working to update the tool to reflect the new requirements that take effect on 5 July 2012. In the meantime, please refer to this document on our website which sets out the amended water information obligations. The document compares current water information requirements with the amended requirements.

Water Restrictions tool

Under the amended regulations, Person Categories A, B and F will be required to provide their water use restrictions announcements (Information Category 8) by means of a new online water restrictions tool. In a staged process over the next few weeks, we are contacting relevant organisations to advise them about how to access and use the new tool.

WDTF release

A new WDTF release (v.1.0.2) has been published to incorporate the new Regulations subcategories, and any revised definitions for those categories.

The new WDTF release also includes improved documentation and some bug fixes, and is available for download from http://www.bom.gov.au/water/regulations/wdtf/wdtfDownload.shtml.

If you require further information about the amendments, please email regulations@bom.gov.au.
